The Transformative Approach to Mediation - 3 Day Training in the Basic Skills - English Language

17 - 19 settembre 2014

The Transformative Approach to Mediation - 3 Day Training in the Basic Skills - English Language

The Transformative model and its implications for conflict intervention were first described in The Promise of Mediation by Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger, published in 1994 and articulated once again in the revised edition of The Promise of Mediation in 2005.
This course is a unique opportunity to make acquaintance with the transformative framework, and put it into practice. Mediators practicing other models will particularly appreciate the insights that the course offers.

This 3-day training is particularly suited to mediators with little or no experience of transformative practice. It covers in fact the theoretical foundation of the approach, and the basic skills congruent with it.

Participants will gain an understanding of the theory and basic skills necessary forthe practice of transformative mediation including:

• Understanding transformative conflict theory and the concepts of empowerment and recognition.
• An understanding of the relationship between a third party intervener's motivations and the interventions used in practice;
• The skills to focus on and attend to the moment-by-moment interactions of the participants;
• The ability to truly facilitate and engage in non-directive interventions which respect the participants' competence and good faith;
• The capacity to take a responsive rather than directive or evaluative role in intervention.

The course will be held in Conegliano (Italy), ex Convento San Francesco, in September the 17th, 18th and 19th 2014.

GBP 1ʼ115 or USD 1ʼ870 or € 1ʼ370 + VAT where applicable*

*Any business (either individual or organisation) which is NOT a fiscal resident in Italy is exempt from VAT. Any other participant is subject to VAT at 22%. In that case, participation fee is GBP 1’360,30 or USD 2’281,40 or € 1’671,40.

The price includes:

- Participation to the training (Sept 17-18-19, 2014) and materials;
- Transfer from Venice Marco Polo airport to venue (Sept 16 at 14:45 and 18:15);
- Accommodation for 3 nights (Sept 16, 17, 18) and breakfasts. We will arrange for lunch and dinner, however everybody will choose and pay what s/he takes;
- A participation certificate issued by ADR QUADRA.

The course is aimed primarily at qualified mediators who wish to gain the basic skills in transformative mediation (regardless of previous trainings in other approaches - eg. problem-solving - and educational qualification).

The course will also benefit people who wish to assist their clients in mediation as representatives or who find themselves managing situations of conflict and wish learn new techniques to deal with those conflicts.
